Nutrition for Eye Health: A Balanced View

Eyes depend on the same foundations as the rest of the body: varied food, vascular health and not smoking. No single food can guarantee protection from eye disease.

Build a varied plate

Leafy green vegetables, colourful fruit and vegetables, legumes, nuts, whole grains and suitable sources of omega-3 fats provide a broad range of nutrients. Variety matters more than chasing one so-called superfood.

General health reaches the eyes

Managing blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol supports the small blood vessels that serve the retina. Regular activity and avoiding tobacco are important parts of eye-health advice.

Be cautious with supplements

High-dose supplements are not appropriate for everyone and can interact with medicines or be harmful. Specific formulations may be recommended for selected people with particular stages of macular degeneration, but this should follow professional assessment.

A clear next step

Write down what you have noticed, when it began and which activities are affected. That simple record can make a professional conversation more focused and useful.
