Monovision sets one eye more toward distance and the other more toward near. The brain blends the two inputs, but the experience is individual and adaptation may take time.

What adaptation can feel like

Early on, people may notice imbalance, uncertain depth judgement or a preference for one eye during a particular task. Many become less aware of the difference as the visual system learns which information to prioritise.

Trade-offs worth discussing

The arrangement can reduce dependence on reading glasses, but fine near work, low-light driving or tasks demanding precise depth perception may still benefit from glasses. The amount of focus difference between the eyes matters.

Keep expectations flexible

Allow the recovery period recommended by your surgeon and record which tasks feel easy or difficult. Persistent blur, discomfort or a sudden change should be discussed promptly. Personal diaries can illuminate an experience, but they cannot predict another person’s outcome.
